Digital Services – Production Assistant
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Digital Services – Production Assistant intern will
perform various duties as detailed below:
- Observation: The intern will shadow or sit in on various meetings and work
assignments. During this initial phase, the intern will get a feel for the library's
business personality, culture, and services to the community. This will
include visits in each library department to gain a contextual understanding of
the Organization. At the conclusion of the department visits, the intern will
remain in the Digital Services department to commence the operation phase of
the internship.
- Operation: The intern will participate in the actual work of the organization
by producing suitable videos and content for publication on social media.
PURPOSE and OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this internship, the intern will:
- List valuable professional experience on a resume
- Apply theory to actual work situations
- Produce a portfolio of their work from the internship
- Increase employment opportunities and industry contacts
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Adobe Video and Audio Editing Software is required
- Applicant must submit examples of previous work, i.e. show reel or portfolio of projects
- Familiarity with content creation for social media platforms, primarily Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college, university, or technical/vocational institution is preferred
- Have enthusiasm and passion for creativity
- If enrolled as a student, have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Have excellent attention to detail, be well-organized, and show initiative
- Demonstrate leadership qualities
MISCELLANEOUS:
- Intern will complete a minimum of 150 hours in the field during the internship.
- Intern will maintain a weekly diary of work activities outlining work assignments and accomplishments.
- Intern will build a portfolio containing videos, other projects, or work as appropriate
- . Intern will also submit to the Director a written report that describes the work experience over the program. It should include a detailed evaluation of the lessons learned during the internship and any other comments relevant to this internship
- A supervisor will be assigned to work with the intern to offer professionalcriticism and advice as needed. The supervisor will fulfill the duties of the field supervisor as outlined in the syllabus for MCOM 4390 Mass Communication Internship.
COMPENSATION:
Compensation for the internship program consists of a stipend of $2,000.00.
The first half of compensation ($1,000.00) shall be paid within two weeks of the
commencement of the internship program. The final half ($1,000.00) shall be
paid within two weeks of the conclusion of the internship program.

Various Part-Time Positions

- William F. Laman Public Library
These positions include landscaping, customer service, and temporary. There are Friday, Saturday, morning, and evening hours available.
Duties:
- Possess a working knowledge of library automation systems
- Take responsibility for becoming familiar with upgrades to systems
- Assume a proactive role within the department
- Perform opening/closing procedures correctly
- Assist patrons in a courteous fashion
- Oversee appropriate use of library facilities and materials
- Deal with patron complaints/suggestions patiently and decisively
- Assist patrons in using library resources and provide reader’s advisory services
- Assure accurate library shelving of materials according to library policies and procedures
- Review materials for damage; clean and repair library materials as needed
- Participate in weeding procedure as assigned
- Assists in training new employees
- Assist with library projects, events and programs
- Promote all library services, events and programs
- Analyze collection for development needs
- Provide reference and reader’s advisory service
- Maintain a pleasant, inviting, safe environment for children
- Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification
