Book-a-Librarian Is Expanding: New Skills, New Services, Two Locations

Book-a-Librarian launched at Laman Library in July 2025, connecting patrons with staff for one-on-one help tailored to their needs. In its first year, more than 60 appointments were booked, covering everything from sewing and computer basics to genealogy and research. Here's what we've been up to in 2026, including the launch of Book-a-Librarian at Argenta!

Off to a Great Start

For our stats fans out there, 15 Laman staff members have conducted a total of 60 appointments so far in 2026! From teaching patrons to create designs using the Cricut to how to find a job using our computers, our library staff members are ready to help our patrons in a variety of ways. Expanded Offerings

We love helping patrons expand their knowledge and skills, from laptops to weaving looms to research tools. Here are a few new offerings we premiered this year.

• English as a Second Language at Laman: In partnership with Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, our ESL tutor can help patrons develop their English proficiency completely free of charge.
• Quilting Help at Laman: Don't know a Sawtooth from a Shoo Fly? Our quilting experts are ready to help everyone, from beginners to seasoned sewists.
• Archival Equipment at Laman: Take your personal archiving to a new level with our in-house 11" x 17" scanner and three audio recorders. Capture fragile documents, digitize slides, and preserve treasured oral histories in the Genealogy Room.
• Book-a-Librarian at Argenta: Book an appointment at our branch in the Argenta Arts District!

• Book-a-Librarian at Argenta: Visit the Argenta booking page and complete the appointment request form. Unique Argenta offerings include conversational Spanish, citizenship, and English translation.
