NLRPLS Teams Up With Laufey for a Special-Edition Library Card

Library Card Sign-Up Month kicks off September 1, and this year we're celebrating with something a little different: a limited-edition library card made in partnership with 2X GRAMMY® Award-winning artist and New York Times bestselling author Laufey, and her global Laufey Book Club.

What Is the Laufey Book Club?

Laufey founded the Laufey Book Club in August 2022 to share her love of reading with fans, and it's grown into a community of more than 350,000 people across social media. In 2025, the Book Club partnered with five library systems, including LA County, Boston, Phoenix, Fulton County, and Reykjavík, on a pilot run of collaborative library cards, and most of those systems broke single-day sign-up records at launch. This year, NLRPLS is joining a growing group of libraries bringing the card to their own communities.

Get Your Card Starting September 1

Starting Tuesday, September 1, the limited-edition NLRPLS x Laufey Book Club card is available free to new and existing cardholders at any NLRPLS location, including William F. Laman Public Library, Argenta Public Library, and the Rover mobile library. The card features a custom Laufey Book Club design alongside the Book Club crest and the NLRPLS logo. Cards are available while supplies last, so don't wait too long to stop by.

A Very Laufey Tea Party

Twenty-five cards have been set aside for attendees of A Very Laufey Tea Party, a free after-hours event at Laman Library on Saturday, September 12, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in Studio A (Rotunda). The tea party features hot tea and refreshments, a tiny book earrings or ornament craft, and a Laufey singalong. Dressing up is optional, with fashions inspired by Laufey encouraged. The event is best for ages 13 and up, and registration is appreciated at programs.nlrlibrary.org/event/16857196, with some spots available at the door.

This partnership also marks Laufey's role as the 2025 spokesperson for Library Card Sign-Up Month, an American Library Association initiative celebrating the power of libraries to support their communities.
