For All Passport Applicants
Where should I go to apply for a passport?
Both the Argenta and Laman libraries can accept passport applications during passport office hours. Check in at the Front Desk of either location to be added to the wait list.
We are a first-come, first-served facility: no appointment needed! We highly recommend calling the library for information about the wait time and arriving at least an hour before the passport office closes. Our agents may close the line early to allow for everyone already in line can be seen.
For New Passport Applicants
What do I need to get a passport?
You will need 5 things for your appointment!
- Your completed DS-11 application. Pick up a copy at either NLR Library location, or print it for free at the link below.
- An original or certified copy of your proof of citizenship - click here to read a list of valid examples.
- A government-issued photo ID. If your ID was issued in the last 6 months, you will need an additional valid form of ID listed under "Secondary IDs" on this webpage.
- A check or money order for your application
- A separate check, cash, or card payment for the facility fee.
Our agents will make copies and take your passport photo for no additional charge! Have a special circumstance with your documents? Call and ask for a passport agent for assistance.
For New Passport Applicants
How much does a passport cost?
The cost of a passport depends on 3 factors.
- If you are applying for a passport book, a passport card, or both.
- The age of the applicant.
- How quickly you need your passport.
Click on the button below to see the Department of State's Passport Fee page, or call the Laman or Argenta library and ask to speak to a passport agent!
All DS-11 passport applications are charged a $35 facility fee (price set by the Federal Government.)
Special Considerations for Minors Ages 0-15
Can I get a passport for a child?
Passport applications for minors follow the same steps, but certain additional safety measures are in place.
- Minor passports are valid for 5 years and cannot be renewed.
- The minor must be present for the appointment.
- All parents on the minor's birth certificate must also be present at the appointment with valid photo IDs.
- If one or both parents are unable to appear, they must submit an original completed and notarized DS-3053 form and a front and back copy of their photo ID. Documents can be notarized for free any North Little Rock Library location - learn more here!
For Renewal Applications
How do I renew my passport?
If you have a valid or recently expired passport, you may be eligible for a renewal! Form DS-82 explains the criteria for renewal - click the button below to access the form and learn more.
Applicants will be responsible for mailing their applications and application payment to the Department of State. Rather than paying the $35 facility fee, renewal applicants only pay a $5 photo fee directly to the library.
For Emergencies
Can I get my passport right now?
Life can get busy! Our libraries cannot process or print passports, but here are some ways to speed up the process.
- Pay for expedited processing: For an additional $60 per application, passports can be processed in about 2-4 weeks instead of the normal 4-6 week time frame.
- Pay for faster return shipping: Faster return shipping costs $22.05.
- Make an appointment at a Passport Center: For urgent travel plans in 14 days or fewer, you can make an appointment at a Passport Center by calling 877-487-2778. The nearest Passport Center is in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Other Paid "Services"
Companies can advertise "rushed passport" services, include the U.S. Department of State logo, sell access to free forms, or promise a one-day passport without any verification.
Only passport agencies can actually deliver faster results. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
All information, forms, and assistance are available for free at travel.state.gov and through the library.
Need Forms?
Never pay for forms online - they are always available on travel.state.gov free of charge. Printed forms are also available for free at either passport office location.
