How It Works!
What is NLR Picks?
North Little Rock Picks (NLR Picks) is a reader’s advisory service for the
patrons of the North Little Rock Public Library System (NLRPLS). Patrons complete an online survey and receive five book or multi-media title suggestions from the library’s existing collection.
How are items added to the library's collection?
Titles are curated by select NLRPLS staff members, including the Chief Librarian/CEO Crystal Gates and our acquisitions and collections librarian. Their decisions are guided by the NLRPLS Collection Development Policy, available on the library’s website; click here to learn more.
How are title suggestions created?
Library staff members use a variety of methods to create title suggestions. The survey that patrons complete is the most valuable resource – no detail is too small to impact your personalized suggestions. Resources like professionally-edited book lists, staff input, book reviews, read-a-like suggestion tools, and more. Artificial intelligence tools are not used to create title suggestions.

- Recommended based on limited information from both patrons and staff; with thousands of items in our collection, staff is not familiar with every item.
- Your responsibility to
evaluate. Like any recommendation, take the time to review the choices
and see if they match your taste. You can even fill out the form again
and receive new recommendations!
Your suggested titles are not...
- Endorsed by staff. These items belong in our collection based on our collection development policy which calls for a diverse range of topics to appeal to our entire community.
- Required reading. There is no expectation that you will engage with every (or any) title recommended through NLR Picks.
