The North Little Rock Public Library is one of over 70 locations across the country selected to take part in the Dynamic Eclipse Broadcast (DEB) Initiative, and we are looking for curious high school students to join our DEB team! Our team will be part of a large network of volunteer citizen scientists and will conduct coordinated solar observations prior to and during the total solar eclipse in 2024. Thanks to equipment and funding provided by NASA and the National Science Foundation, we will broadcast live images and collect data during the eclipse that NASA’s SOHO satellite is unable to capture! The Great Stories Club (GSC) is a discussion club sponsored by the American Library Association, but the focus of our GSC, run at Laman Library, is to provide a monthly club for teens who want to engage with BIPOC stories, authors, creators, and local organizations. GSC meetings at Laman Library are a monthly gathering that begins with a meal from a local eatery, such as pizza, tacos, wraps, or chicken, allowing teens to connect with one another. Following the meal, they dive into the month's chosen book. Even if a teen hasn't finished or started the book, they are encouraged to participate in the discussion. Here at the North Little Rock Public Library System, we know literacy is a family affair! That's why we're starting our A.S.K. program- that stands for Adults Supporting Kids. Each month, we'll be hosting a program highlighting a topic that's important for parents and guardians of our youngest patrons at the William F. Laman Public Library.
